Come to the Mac Academy!
We have received a great deal of customer feedback and as a direct result of that feedback, we have decided to shorten the workshop from 5 to 3 days and lower the cost from $1000 to $750. So instead of running from June 14-18, 2010, we will hold the class from June 14-16, 2010.

Description
This 3 day intensive workshop is designed to teach participants how to use the Voiceover screen reader that is installed on every Apple computer running the OSX10.6 Snow Leopard operating system.

Each day will consist of group instruction, time for practice, and personalized one on one instruction.

Topics covered include, setting up an Apple computer and using Voiceover out of the box, understanding the various elements, menus, and dialogs encountered within the OS, and the many applications that come pre-installed; word processing, browsing the internet, iTunes, file management and much more.

Participants who do not already own an Apple computer will be provided one to use while in class and participants may also purchase a computer as part of the training so that they may take home the computer which they have been working with during the workshop.

"Apple is the clear front runner in terms of off the shelf accessibility" states Earle Harrison, President and Founder of Handy Tech North America, "and we are proud to be among the first adaptive technology companies to offer such an in-depth and comprehensive class on this exciting and ever evolving technology."

Who should attend?
Adaptive technology trainers, vision teachers, technicians and rehabilitation professionals. Any blind or low vision professional or student interested in learning the free Voiceover screen reader included with every Apple Macintosh computer running the Snow Leopard OSX10.6 operating system, with the goal of becoming more competitive with their sighted classmates or co-workers.

Time
The first Mac Academy is scheduled to take place at the Handy Tech North America training center in Columbia Heights, Minnesota beginning Monday, June 14 until Wednesday, June 16, 2010.

Cost
The cost for this event is $750.00 per participant (this price does not include travel, lodging or food expenses).

Maximum Capacity
This class has a maximum capacity of 12 participants. There will be two instructors to insure quality one on one instruction.

Accommodation/Special Group Rate
Special room rates are available at the LivINN Suites located less than a mile from the training center. Complimentary transportation from the hotel to the training center will be provided by Handy Tech North America. Participants who choose to stay at a different hotel will be responsible for their own transportation.

Wow, this sounds really really interesting. I'm going to be buying a mac pretty soon, so this would be really beneficial.

Please post further work shops as they are planned and organized.
This time and location does not suit me, but I would find it overwhelmingly likely that I would attend such a work shop later in the summer or in the fall, especially if it is around the southeast, though that's not a prerequisite.
Good luck with the first one and I hope we'll see more of these.

This is a great idea, and it's about time somebody did it! I won't attend, because I know the Mac, but I'd love to see the skeptics be won over.

I think it's a fantastic idea! I can't afford to come, but I'd love to do it!

Sounds lik a wonderful class, though I won't be able to attend. I've got a summer job. I've learned the VoiceOver commands on Leopard, so Snow Leopard shouldn't be a big deal as far as learning the new commands. Let's keep it going, Apple! Show us what you're made of!

Even if you don't have the money to attend, the mac work book is great. It's only seventy five. I would really recommend this, if they are still doing it. And if they're not, they've gone crazy.
